Advocacy Communications Specialist

About the role
The Specialist, Advocacy Communications supports the Canadian Cancer Society’s advocacy agenda by creating and executing communications strategies that highlight the impact of its work. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the role works across advocacy, health policy and mission teams to craft compelling narratives for supporters, policymakers and the public.
Key responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive communications plans and tools aligned with CCS mission and advocacy priorities.
- Produce a variety of communications materials such as news releases, key messages, fact sheets, speeches, presentations and digital content.
- Advise advocacy partners on communications opportunities and identify high‑impact moments.
- Translate complex advocacy and public policy initiatives into clear, audience‑specific content.
- Identify, develop and package advocacy stories for multimedia storytelling.
- Assess advocacy communications performance and recommend innovative strategies.
- Plan and execute targeted media and public relations activities to elevate advocacy priorities.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy communications and media relations.
- Strong project management abilities with a results‑oriented mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across multiple locations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Experience shaping narratives for cause supporters, elected officials and government decision‑makers.
