Academic Researcher – Data Annotation (Remote Contract)

About the role

Mercor is seeking experienced academic researchers to support AI training labs by reviewing and annotating data. This remote, contract position offers flexible hours and a structured workflow focused on maintaining high‑quality data standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and evaluate data outputs to benchmark and improve AI models across multiple domains.
• Collaborate with AI research labs to ensure annotation accuracy and data quality.
• Apply consistent judgment to large volumes of tasks following detailed rubrics.
• Work independently in a low‑pressure environment while meeting weekly hour commitments.
• Utilize strong research and analytical abilities to support data quality control.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of relevant experience in an academic field such as history, art, or psychology.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s or PhD.
• Background as a teacher, professor, or researcher.
• Excellent written communication and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow detailed evaluation guidelines.
