Academic and Career Advisor

About the role

The Academic and Career Advisor works on a centralized team serving all students at UBC Okanagan. The role combines academic advising with career development support, building long‑term relationships with students from their first year through graduation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students in defining academic, personal and professional goals and recommend appropriate courses and programs.
• Provide guidance on work‑integrated learning, skill‑building opportunities and career‑readiness activities.
• Discuss job‑search strategies, share labour‑market information and support alumni career outcomes.
• Help students select courses to meet degree requirements and program prerequisites.
• Design and deliver student‑engagement programming that enhances academic and career outcomes.
• Consult with Associate Deans, Deans, Directors and other faculty leaders on student‑service initiatives.
• Interact routinely with students across all faculties, offering both general and faculty‑specific advising.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of university academic structures and student services.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and take initiative.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills to support student success and retention.
• Experience collaborating with academic and administrative stakeholders.
