Wastewater Operator A – Chelmsford

About the role

The City of Guelph Services (CGS) is seeking an Operator A to join its Wastewater Services team at the Chelmsford Wastewater Treatment Plant. This permanent, union‑affiliated position works 80 hours bi‑weekly on a rotating shift schedule and offers a competitive hourly wage.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment and collection facilities under the supervision of a Wastewater Supervisor.
• Perform regular inspections, make operational adjustments, and conduct minor repairs to ensure efficient plant performance.
• Collect samples, conduct laboratory tests, record readings, and maintain operational logs and reports.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, minor building and grounds work, and support tradespersons as needed.
• Participate in seven‑day/24‑hour shift rotations and conduct plant tours for the public when directed.
• Support training of facility employees and uphold CGS safety standards and provincial legislation.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation (Grade 12); a two‑year post‑secondary diploma is considered an asset.
• Valid Ontario Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection Level 1 certificates (maintained in good standing).
• Minimum one year of operating experience in a wastewater facility.
• Ability to use tight‑fitting respirators (clean‑shaven) as a Bona Fide Occupational Requirement.
• Physical capability to lift and perform manual tasks associated with plant operations.
• Successful completion of a criminal record check after selection.

Required skills

• Wastewater Treatment Level 1 certification
• Wastewater Collection Level 1 certification
• Operation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Sample collection and basic laboratory testing
