Utility Operator – Hydrovac/Flusher Truck

About the role

The City of Brooks is seeking a Utility Operator to operate a hydrovac/flusher truck, maintain underground piping, and flush sewer and storm lines. This full‑time permanent position offers a supportive, diverse work environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the hydrovac/flusher truck to expose and maintain underground utilities.
• Flush sewer and storm drainage lines according to schedule.
• Maintain accurate records of flushing activities and equipment maintenance.
• Perform preventive maintenance on the hydrovac/flusher unit per the manual.
• Report infrastructure conditions to the Utility Foreman and suggest improvements.
• Ensure traffic and pedestrian control at work sites.
• Run sewer cameras to assess pipe conditions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class 3 driver’s licence with Q endorsement and a clean driver abstract.
• Standard First Aid, Confined Space, H2S, Ground Disturbance, Equipotential Bonding, Flag Person and Fall Protection certifications.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and tolerate frequent interruptions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to undergo a criminal record check.
