University Controller

About the role

The University Controller reports to the Associate Vice‑President, Financial Services and is responsible for the integrity of McGill University’s financial information. The role leads the preparation of institutional financial statements and provides expert advice on accounting standards, financial policies, taxation and financial risk.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy and reliability of all financial reporting.
• Lead the preparation and publication of the university’s financial statements.
• Advise senior management on accounting standards, tax matters and financial risk management.
• Provide strategic leadership for financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and strengthen financial governance frameworks across the institution.
• Maintain compliance with applicable legislation, accounting standards and university policies.
• Drive continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
• Lead a multidisciplinary finance team and support the university’s transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in financial reporting and accounting.
• Deep knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory requirements and internal control frameworks.
• Ability to provide strategic advice on financial policies, taxation and risk.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary finance teams.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and transformation within a large, complex organization.
