University Controller – Financial Services

About the role

The University Controller leads the integrity of financial information for McGill University, overseeing the preparation of institutional financial statements and providing expert advice on accounting standards, policies, taxation, and financial risk. Reporting to the Associate Vice‑President of Financial Services, the role is central to the university’s transformation agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for financial reporting and accounting functions.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, accounting standards, and university policies.
• Develop and strengthen financial governance frameworks and internal controls.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting.
• Contribute to the modernization of the finance operating model and support a service‑oriented finance function.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior financial management within a large, complex organization.
• Proven ability to lead transformation initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory compliance, and financial risk management.
