Traffic Technician – Municipal Roads & Signals

About the role

The City of Belleville is seeking a motivated Traffic Technician to support the design, installation, maintenance and emergency repair of traffic signal and streetlight systems. This permanent, full‑time position works 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a rotating on‑call schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely advice to supervisors on safe and efficient traffic system management.
• Perform field maintenance and after‑hours emergency work on traffic signals.
• Design, install and modify signal equipment at new or existing intersections.
• Collaborate with public works staff and subcontractors on construction and repair projects.
• Conduct electrical/electronic repairs and software/programming debugging of signal equipment.
• Prepare budgets, reports, proposals, design documents and project estimates.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; post‑secondary training in electrical or traffic engineering technology is an asset.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make decisions that enhance traffic flow safety.
• Willingness to work on‑call and respond to emergencies after regular hours.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with the public, police and internal departments.
