Third Cook (Casual, Part‑time) – Vancouver

About the role

The University of British Columbia is looking for a reliable third cook to join its campus food services team. This casual, part‑time position can lead to a full‑time role and offers the chance to work in a fast‑paced, diverse kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Determine portion sizes, calculate food costs and plan menus.
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies, maintain inventory and records.
• Prepare and cook complete meals, individual dishes, and special meals for patients as directed.
• Accommodate customers with food allergies or intolerances.
• Inspect kitchen and service areas, ensure cleanliness and safety standards.
• Train and supervise kitchen staff and helpers.
• Organise buffets, banquets and other large‑scale food services.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation or equivalent experience.
• 1‑2 years of cooking or food‑service experience.
• Safe Food Handling and Food Safety certifications.
• Dependable, organized and able to work well in a team.
• Excellent oral communication and flexibility to adapt to shifting schedules.
