Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Art and Science of Animation

About the role

The School of Design at Université Laval invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position dedicated to the art and science of animation. The role combines teaching, research‑creation, and engagement with the vibrant animation ecosystem of Quebec City.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses covering animation theory, practice, and emerging technologies.
• Conduct innovative research, creation, or research‑creation leading to publications, productions, or public dissemination.
• Supervise graduate students and mentor their research or creative projects.
• Contribute to curriculum development and participate in departmental administration.
• Collaborate with professional studios, visual‑effects companies, and cultural institutions, addressing societal and technological issues in animation.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in animation or a related discipline (or a master’s degree with at least eight years of internationally recognized professional practice).
• Demonstrated excellence in research, creative practice, or research‑creation (prizes, grants, publications, productions).
• University teaching experience at the theoretical and/or practical level.
• Proficiency in written and spoken French (training provided if needed).

Required skills

• Expertise in animation theory and practice, including 2D/3D techniques, visual effects, and emerging tools such as generative AI.
• Ability to secure external research or creation funding and develop grant‑based partnerships.
