Temporary School Social Worker

About the role

The Halton District School Board is seeking a Temporary Full‑Time School Social Worker to join its clinical services team for the 2026‑2027 school year. The role will be based in one of the Board’s schools in the Burlington‑Halton region and will focus on supporting student wellbeing, academic success and family engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide short‑term individual and group counselling to students facing mental‑health, emotional, social or behavioural challenges.
• Offer consultation and problem‑solving support to teachers, administrators and families to develop inclusive strategies.
• Manage cases and connect families with community resources, including services for newcomers, refugees and international students.
• Collaborate with the Safe and Inclusive Schools Team, the H.O.P.E.S. team and the Welcome Centre on suspension, expulsion and newcomer support.
• Apply anti‑racist, culturally responsive and anti‑oppressive practices in all interventions.
• Participate in bullying prevention, restorative practice and conflict‑resolution initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Work (BSW or MSW) and registration with the relevant provincial regulatory body.
• Experience working with children, youth or families in an educational or community setting.
• Strong knowledge of bullying prevention, restorative practices and case management.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse school staff, students and families.

Required skills
