About the role
This summer position, offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program, provides hands‑on experience in a professional, team‑based environment supporting poverty‑reduction initiatives. You will serve as the first point of contact for citizens, handling inquiries via phone, in‑person, and electronic channels.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to telephone, in‑person, and electronic inquiries, providing clear information on eligibility, required documents, and application steps.
- Assist citizens in completing applications and guide them through program requirements.
- Perform basic bookkeeping tasks, including preparing purchase orders and cheque requisitions.
- Support data entry, maintain accurate digital and paper records, and update program spreadsheets and tracking systems.
- Coordinate scheduling of appointments (in‑person, virtual, phone) with ministry staff and monitor shared inboxes.
- Prepare meeting materials, assist with budget compilation, invoice processing, and manage office supplies and program documents.
- Help prepare outreach materials for events, workshops, and information sessions.
Required profile
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected refugee as defined by Canadian law.
- Legally entitled to work in British Columbia.
- Eligible students or youth seeking practical experience in community service delivery.
Required skills
- Strong verbal and written communication for interacting with the public.
- Basic data‑entry proficiency and familiarity with spreadsheet tools.
- Organizational abilities to manage records, scheduling, and office supplies.
- Attention to detail for bookkeeping and document handling.
