Team Lead, Academic and Career Advising

About the role

The University of British Columbia Okanagan is seeking a Team Lead for Academic and Career Advising. This senior position supports all students on campus by delivering high‑quality advising services, managing complex student cases, and driving initiatives that improve academic and career outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑point support for advisors handling complex student cases, using a collaborative case‑management approach.
• Co‑facilitate Academic & Career Development (ACD) advising meetings and lead departmental projects.
• Oversee a team of advisors, ensuring consistent service delivery and professional development.
• Collect and analyze advising trends, escalating issues to senior leadership and recommending improvements.
• Design and implement student engagement programs that enhance retention, academic success, and career readiness.
• Assess current services, identify gaps, and propose enhancements to meet evolving student needs.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in higher‑education advising or student services, with a track record of handling complex cases.
• Strong leadership and project‑management abilities, capable of guiding a team toward shared goals.
• Excellent communication and consultation skills for interaction with faculty, deans, and administrative units.
• Ability to work independently under the supervision of the Director of Academic, Career and Experiential Education.
