About the role
The Mathematics and Statistics department at McGill University seeks a graduate student to serve as a Teaching Assistant for the Linear Optimization (MATH 417/517) course in Fall 2026. The TA will support a tutorial group, facilitating learning and assessment throughout the term.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver weekly tutorials, presenting prepared examples and encouraging student interaction.
- Hold at least two regular office hours per week for individual or group assistance.
- Mark tutorial assignments, maintain accurate grade records, and assist with exam invigilation.
- Participate in team marking of midterm and final exams under faculty supervision.
- Prepare solution sheets, occasional surprise tests, and manage the online course platform by responding to student posts.
Required profile
- Current McGill graduate student.
- Honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics with high standing.
Required skills
What we offer
- Hourly salary of $38.46 CAD.
- 75 hours of work over the term (August to December).
- Professional experience in university teaching and assessment.
