System Administrator – University Research Lab

About the role

The Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto is seeking a System Administrator to support the Citizen Lab, an interdisciplinary research centre focused on technology, human rights and global security. Reporting to the Systems & Security Technical Lead, you will maintain the lab’s computer and network infrastructure and provide technical assistance to researchers and contractors worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor performance and integrity of servers, including cloud SaaS applications.
• Troubleshoot networking issues and resolve server/system problems.
• Configure, maintain and monitor network servers and operating systems.
• Run diagnostics, assist with repairs, and conduct detailed system performance analyses.
• Provide remote technical support to users across different time zones.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and protect lab devices and data.

Required profile

• Experience with server and network administration in a research or academic environment.
• Familiarity with security best practices and procedural discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow strict security protocols.
