Synthetic Aperture Radar Payload Engineer

About the role

The Synthetic Aperture Radar Payload Engineer will lead the definition, design, integration and verification of SAR payloads for space missions, ensuring performance, reliability and security requirements are met.

Key responsibilities

• Gather functional, performance, pointing, environmental and security requirements from mission stakeholders and CONOPs.
• Design the SAR system architecture, including antenna arrays, RF front‑end Tx/Rx components, digital beamforming, processing chain and supporting electronics.
• Develop and maintain requirement traceability, interface control documents and payload verification master plan.
• Perform simulations, tolerance budgeting, FMECA, fault‑tree and reliability modeling to meet mission objectives.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams (electrical, power, structures, thermal, software, ground‑segment and mission‑operations) to resolve integration issues early.
• Mentor junior engineers, act as technical liaison with customers and external vendors, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics with 10+ years experience in SAR remote‑sensing system development, integration and test on LEO/MEO missions.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills; ability to produce requirements, ICDs, test procedures and risk reports.
• Hands‑on experience with systems integration, test automation and PLM environments.
• Proficiency with Confluence and JIRA and ability to work with minimal supervision.
