Surface & Baseworks Superintendent

About the role

The Surface and Baseworks Site Superintendent leads day‑to‑day operations on roadbuilding and earthworks projects for Castle Rock Enterprises. The role ensures resources, equipment and subcontractors are allocated efficiently while delivering projects safely, on time, on budget and to high quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise surface and baseworks activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents and company procedures.
• Lead crews, operators and subcontractors, monitoring progress and adjusting work plans to meet milestones.
• Oversee sub‑cuts, gravel placement and compaction, grading, base preparation and readiness for asphalt, curb and concrete work.
• Plan and track equipment, materials and personnel to maintain smooth workflow.
• Conduct regular inspections, address issues on site and ensure environmental and erosion‑control requirements are met.
• Enforce safety regulations, lead daily toolbox talks and complete Job Hazard Analyses.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager on schedules, resource availability and daily coordination.
• Maintain daily journals, safety documentation and equipment logs, reporting progress, issues and risks.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of civil/infrastructure construction site supervision, preferably in road building, earthworks or sewer/water projects.
• Strong leadership ability to motivate crews and subcontractors.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Proven problem‑solving, critical‑thinking and attention‑to‑detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, multitask and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to a safety‑first work environment.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with at least three years of driving experience.

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and contracts.
• Computer proficiency for daily reporting, logs and safety documentation.
• Class 5 driver’s licence.
