Supervisor – Real Property Valuation

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Supervisor to lead its Real Property Valuation team. This temporary, full‑time position oversees appraisal activities for high‑value, politically sensitive municipal properties and supports strategic initiatives such as parkland dedication policy.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, administer and supervise the Real Property Valuation Team, including recruitment, scheduling and performance management.
• Prepare and review appraisal reports for acquisition, disposal, lease or development of complex city properties.
• Negotiate acquisitions, disposals and leases, and draft related agreements in collaboration with Legal Services.
• Manage the section’s operating budget, monitor expenditures and provide quarterly financial reports.
• Lead departmental projects such as parkland dedication policy reviews and other corporate initiatives.

Required profile

• Membership in the Appraisal Institute of Canada with Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute designation.
• University degree in Economics, Geography, Land‑Use Planning, Commerce, Business, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Several years of progressive experience in real‑estate appraisal, negotiation and portfolio management, preferably under the Expropriations Act.
• Proven supervisory experience, including planning, assigning and evaluating staff.
• Valid Class “G” driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Excellent analytical, statistical and research abilities.
• Proficiency in econometric modelling, trend analysis and forecasting.
• Familiarity with all facets of the planning and land‑development process.
