Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement

About the role

The Town of Caledon is seeking a Supervisor for its Municipal Law Enforcement division. Reporting to the Director, this role leads day‑to‑day operations, ensuring compliance with municipal by‑laws, licensing, parking and animal enforcement services.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Municipal Law Enforcement Officers (MLEO1) across 24/7 shift schedules.
• Motivate and guide staff in investigative work and by‑law enforcement.
• Ensure investigations of by‑law and licensing violations are completed and documented.
• Lead issue‑resolution initiatives arising from complaints or inquiries.
• Prepare and review prosecution briefs to support successful legal actions.
• Conduct regular audits of officer files and notes for accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate processes to ensure understanding and adherence to town by‑laws and licensing requirements.
• Oversee permit processing in line with applicable by‑laws.
• Supervise both in‑house and contracted staff within the division.
• Collaborate with HR on hiring, performance evaluations and staff development.

Required profile

• Proven experience interpreting municipal by‑laws, licensing regulations and related legislation.
• Ability to advise staff on appropriate actions based on legislative and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong collaboration skills with other departmental managers to align programs with council strategic initiatives.
• Demonstrated leadership in a public‑service environment, fostering innovation and engagement.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of municipal by‑law enforcement processes.
• Familiarity with licensing and permit administration.
• Experience preparing prosecution briefs and conducting investigative audits.
• Ability to manage 24/7 operational coverage and shift coordination.
