Supervisor, Health, Safety & Risk Management

About the role

The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Supervisor of Health, Safety and Risk Management to lead and enhance its safety culture. Reporting to the General Manager of People and Organizational Development, you will shape policies, drive continuous improvement and protect employees and the community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive Health, Safety and Risk Management (HSRM) system aligned with strategic goals.
• Maintain the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and manage audit action plans.
• Coach managers, supervisors and staff on health, safety and risk matters.
• Lead and mentor a team of HSRM professionals, fostering collaboration.
• Create and update safety policies, procedures and guidelines to meet legislative requirements.
• Coordinate WCB claims, disability management and return‑to‑work programs.
• Oversee contractor and vendor safety management in partnership with other departments.
• Ensure compliance with insurance programs, policy renewals and audit requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses and maintain safety metrics using a management system.
• Investigate incidents, develop corrective actions and coach leaders on implementation.
• Maintain, update and test emergency response plans through drills.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience leading health, safety and risk initiatives, preferably in a public sector environment.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
• Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills.
• Proven ability to coach and develop teams.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
