Summer Student – Aboriginal Law (2027) – Toronto

About the role

JFK Law LLP is seeking a motivated law student to join its Toronto office for the summer of 2027. The position supports Associates in representing First Nations clients on Aboriginal law matters and provides mentorship with the potential to continue into an articling role.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Associates with litigation and regulatory matters involving Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, consultation, accommodation, and reserve land issues.
• Manage day‑to‑day file administration and conduct legal research for constitutional and administrative law cases.
• Draft legal documents such as pleadings, applications, affidavits, and correspondence.
• Participate in client meetings, motions, trials, and administrative proceedings.
• Prepare trial materials and support overall case strategy under supervision.

Required profile

• Completion of the second year of law school before the start date.
• Strong analytical, interpretive, research and drafting abilities.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships easily and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Genuine interest in Aboriginal law and Indigenous issues.
