Student Research Assistant – Genomics & Policy

About the role

The Human Genetics research team at McGill University is looking for a motivated Student Research Assistant to support interdisciplinary research on the legal, ethical, social, and policy aspects of genomic research, precision medicine, and open science.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews on health law, bioethics, and policy issues related to genomics and data sharing.
• Analyze provincial, national, and international legal and policy frameworks.
• Assist in drafting policy documents, recommendations, and stakeholder communications.
• Support the preparation, copy‑editing, citation verification, and source‑checking of manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Participate in project meetings, contribute to team discussions, and support teaching‑related activities as needed.
• Collaborate with researchers at the Centre for Genomics and Policy and other partners.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Law program or an undergraduate/graduate program in sociology, anthropology, political science, public health, ethics, bioethics, or a related field.
• Strong interest in health law, policy, privacy regulation, and emerging technologies.
• Excellent research, analytical, and written communication abilities.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Fluency in English and working knowledge of French.

Required skills

• Copy‑editing and reference‑management experience.
• Legal source‑checking proficiency.
