Staff Software Developer – AI Products

About the role

Safe Software is seeking an experienced developer to lead technical work on AI‑driven products, including the FME AI Service and AI Assist Plugin. This hybrid position blends production engineering with experimental AI research to build and operate LLM‑based services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement server‑side services and APIs using FastAPI.
• Build modular agentic workflows that extend the FME platform.
• Stay current with AI and LLM tooling, integrating relevant advances into products.
• Participate in the full development lifecycle: specifications, coding, testing, code reviews, and maintenance.
• Support live applications, investigate anomalies, and take part in on‑call rotation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of experience building production backend systems.
• Proven ability to lead technically ambiguous projects and mentor engineers.
• Empirical mindset with comfort designing experiments to evaluate LLM behavior.

Required skills

• Python (including FastAPI and LangChain).
• Experience with agentic LLM applications, RAG, prompt and context engineering.
• Docker and Kubernetes for containerized deployments.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Vector databases and embeddings (e.g., pgvector).
