Staff Lawyer – Criminal & Family Law (2‑year term)

About the role

Legal Aid Saskatchewan is hiring a Staff Lawyer for a two‑year term based in North Battleford. The role focuses on criminal law with additional family services work, serving courts in Meadow Lake and other regional locations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex criminal caseload, including conflict files and appeals.
• Provide full trial representation at all court levels across multiple locations.
• Develop litigation strategies for novel and complex criminal matters.
• Conduct legal research, draft high‑quality materials, and support area offices on conflict and non‑conflict issues.
• Maintain digital file management in a fully electronic environment.
• Contribute to law reform, practice development, and template creation.

Required profile

• LL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
• Minimum two years of trial and litigation experience in criminal law, with some family law exposure.
• Strong courtroom presence, excellent advocacy, and sound judgment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to pass a criminal record check.

Required skills

• Proficiency with legal research tools.
• Advanced use of MS Office.
• Experience with digital practice management systems.
