About the role

Mercury, a fintech company focused on helping startups streamline banking, is seeking a Staff Brand Designer who will set the visual standard for the brand across all touchpoints. This senior‑level role demands an eye for detail, a deep aesthetic philosophy, and the ability to elevate the work of the entire Brand Studio.

Key responsibilities

• Define and uphold the craft standard for Mercury’s brand across campaigns, web, social, events, and other surfaces.
• Lead technically complex, high‑visibility brand design projects from brief to delivery.
• Partner with senior design leadership to evolve visual direction, establishing standards for typography, imagery, layout, and motion.
• Provide hands‑on oversight of Brand Studio output, reviewing work and raising the quality floor.
• Commission and art‑direct external creatives such as photographers, illustrators, and motion designers.
• Develop brand system documentation and decision‑making frameworks for consistent execution.
• Mentor mid‑level designers through critique, pairing, and direct feedback.
• Collaborate with brand strategists, copywriters, product marketers, and leadership on brand presence.

Required profile

• A portfolio that demonstrates mastery of typography, layout, color, and composition across diverse brand contexts.
• Years of experience delivering high‑quality brand design at a senior level.
• Strong aesthetic philosophy and meticulous attention to detail (type hierarchy, negative space, grid, crop).
• Ability to lead and mentor designers, raising overall craft standards.
