Solid Waste Engineer

About the role

Tetra Tech is seeking a Solid Waste Engineer to join its remote Canadian team. You will develop integrated waste‑management systems for public and private clients, focusing on landfill, transfer station, and compost facility design and operation.

Key responsibilities

• Design landfill infrastructure, including layout, liners, leachate collection/treatment, surface water management, covers, and landfill gas systems.
• Design transfer stations and compost facilities and provide operational guidance for all waste sites.
• Monitor facility compliance, conduct site inspections, and oversee field activities.
• Prepare technical specifications, construction drawings, and construction quality‑assurance programs.
• Manage tenders, contracts, contractors, and construction‑phase activities.
• Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and plans to ensure timely, on‑budget delivery.
• Create and manage sub‑consultant agreements and perform senior technical reviews of reports and drawings.
• Mentor project teams, maintain client relationships, and support business development efforts.
• Develop and implement health & safety documentation, conduct safety inspections, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (minimum); Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional experience in solid waste engineering, landfill design, or related environmental engineering fields.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, industry standards, and health & safety practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, contracts, and stakeholder relationships.
