Software Engineer Intern, Winter 2027

About the role

EQ Bank offers an 8-month Software Engineer Internship (January to August 2027) as part of its Engineering Graduate Program, focused on digital banking. The internship is open to fourth-year students and takes place in agile, cross-functional pods where candidates work with both frontend and backend tools and projects.

Key responsibilities

• Backend: assess user experience and requirements, analyze functional requirements and propose technical solutions including API designs and microservice architecture
• Develop and support RESTful/SOAP APIs and microservice applications, and participate in Scrum meetings
• Conduct unit testing and assist with automated testing, and take part in code reviews and merge requests
• Help incident management teams troubleshoot production incidents and contribute to technical documentation
• Frontend: design and develop user interfaces using modern technologies such as Angular, Java/Kotlin for Android and SwiftUI for iOS
• Write clean, maintainable code, make technical and design decisions, and integrate frontend apps with RESTful APIs and GraphQL
• Collaborate with senior developers and provide application support and code reviews

Required profile

• Currently enrolled student with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
• Professional experience developing software with modern languages and frameworks, or an internship
• Interest in scalable distributed systems and microservice architectures
• Basic knowledge of REST APIs and microservices, and of Git for version control
• Experience with Angular, Java/Kotlin for Android, or SwiftUI for iOS in a professional setting

Required skills

• Android: RxJava, Coroutines, Flow, Compose
• iOS: SwiftUI, RxSwift, Swift Concurrency, some Objective-C
• Web: JavaScript, Angular, CSS, HTML
• JUnit and Spring integration tests, MSSQL or other relational databases
• CI/CD pipelines, RESTful architecture, GraphQL, web services, security frameworks
• Micro frontends (preferred); AI-enhanced development (an asset)
