Software Developer – Hybrid (Montreal)

About the role

Retrospect is looking for a motivated Software Developer to join its engineering team in Montreal. You will work on the core of the Retrospect platform, helping to protect data for hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and system components.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure system functionality and efficiency.
• Participate in architecture discussions and make technical design decisions.
• Ensure software quality by following standards and best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain high‑quality, reliable code.
• Debug, profile, and optimize performance in complex, distributed systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of software development and systems integration experience.
• Strong understanding of data protection, replication, and consistency models in distributed environments.
• Experience with ZFS or other advanced Unix‑based file systems.
• Extensive knowledge of S3‑compatible object storage architecture.
• Solid grasp of networking concepts and protocols.
