Social Engagement Assistant

About the role

Seabird Island is seeking a Social Engagement Assistant to support community engagement initiatives, ensuring culturally safe and inclusive interactions with Indigenous community members. Reporting to the Acting Communications and Engagement Team Lead, the role involves planning, coordinating and delivering outreach activities.

Key responsibilities

• Compose and distribute communications for meetings and events, prepare agendas and presentation materials, and manage registration and attendance tracking.
• Coordinate event logistics including venue bookings, catering, audiovisual needs, and set‑up/tear‑down.
• Represent the organization in social media, promotional materials and community campaigns, and conduct door‑to‑door outreach to share invitations, surveys and newsletters.
• Develop and use surveys, questionnaires and focus groups to collect community feedback, and maintain accurate records of engagement activities.
• Foster relationships with internal departments, partners and stakeholders, acting as a liaison between community members and leadership.

Required profile

• Experience in community engagement, public outreach or stakeholder relations.
• Post‑secondary education or experience in Hospitality Management (asset).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational and time‑management abilities to handle multiple priorities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing community needs.
