Shop Foreman – Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

The Shop Foreman oversees daily operations of the heavy‑equipment shop while actively participating in maintenance and repair activities. This frontline leader ensures equipment repairs, preventative maintenance and inspections are completed safely, efficiently and to company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and direct mechanics, apprentices and shop personnel, assigning and prioritising work orders to meet operational deadlines.
• Perform and oversee diagnostics, repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers and small engines, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diesel engine issues.
• Coordinate daily shop workflow, manage inventory, parts deliveries and external repair services to minimise equipment downtime.
• Enforce company safety policies, conduct hazard assessments and ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
• Maintain communication with the Shop Manager, superintendents and field crews regarding equipment status, repair timelines and priority issues.
• Complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance logs and assist with labour‑hour tracking and operational reporting.

Required profile

• Red Seal Truck and Transport Technician or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification (preferred).
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a heavy‑equipment or construction shop environment.
• Ability to prioritise multiple repairs in a fast‑paced setting and work flexible hours for emergency breakdowns.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (Class 1 or 3 an asset).
