Sessional Lecturer – Introduction to Caribbean Studies

About the role

The University of Toronto’s Centre for Caribbean Studies seeks a sessional lecturer to teach CAR120Y1 – Introduction to Caribbean Studies. This interdisciplinary course explores Caribbean sociology, history, and culture from decolonization to contemporary issues.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum aligned with course objectives.
• Deliver in‑person lectures on Tuesdays, 10 am‑1 pm, and facilitate group discussions and assignments.
• Design, administer, and invigilate assessments, including tests and exams.
• Evaluate student performance, assign grades, and provide constructive feedback.
• Hold regular office hours and respond to student inquiries.
• Maintain course materials, grades, and communications on Quercus, CIS, and eMarks.
• Perform administrative duties associated with an undergraduate course.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Literature or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate students in a university setting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Quercus learning management system.
• Experience using CIS (Campus Information System) for grade entry.
• Familiarity with eMarks for assessment management.
