Sessional Lecturer – Elementary Standard Arabic

About the role

We are seeking a Sessional Lecturer to teach an introductory Arabic course (Elementary Standard Arabic) for undergraduate students at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. The course is designed for learners with no prior Arabic knowledge and emphasizes balanced development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through systematic practice.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials for the hybrid‑format class.
• Design, administer, and grade assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
• Maintain regular office hours to support student learning.
• Calculate and submit final grades in accordance with university policies.
• Perform related administrative duties associated with the course.

Required profile

• PhD in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations or a closely related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in elementary Arabic language instruction.
