Sessional Instructor – Kinesiology Courses

About the role

Vancouver Island University is seeking qualified sessional instructors to teach a range of Kinesiology courses across the Fall, Spring, and May Intersession terms. Instructors will deliver both academic and activity‑based classes, covering topics such as active rehabilitation, nutrition for health and sport, exercise physiology, and sport & exercise psychology.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures, labs, and practical sessions for assigned Kinesiology courses.
• Develop assessments, grade student work, and provide timely feedback.
• Support student learning through office hours, mentorship, and academic advising.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and professional activities.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Kinesiology theory and practice.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Kinesiology or a related field (or equivalent education/experience).
• Professional certification or designation (e.g., PT, OT, BCAK, CSEP, ACSM, CSPA) preferred for clinical courses.
• Demonstrated experience teaching at the post‑secondary level.
• Ability to engage diverse learners and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Enthusiasm for the science and art of human movement.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Kinesiology subjects such as exercise physiology, clinical assessment, and health promotion.
• Effective instructional design and classroom delivery skills.
• Capability to adapt teaching methods to varied learning styles.
