Senior Substation Design Engineer

About the role

Spark Power is seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer to lead the design of high‑voltage electrical substations (up to 500 kV) for its Alberta team. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to deliver reliable, code‑compliant substation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary project team of engineers, designers and drafters.
• Develop substation designs, including single‑line diagrams, layout, elevation and grounding details.
• Prepare project scopes, proposals, cost estimates and equipment specifications.
• Review shop drawings, FAT reports and perform constructability reviews with clients.
• Conduct grounding and lightning studies using ETAP and CDEGS.
• Assist in equipment procurement and generate Bill of Materials.
• Mentor junior engineers and review their calculations and drawings.

Required profile

• Electrical Engineering degree.
• P.Eng designation (or member of APEGA preferred).
• Legal right to work in Canada.
• Willingness to work overtime and undergo pre‑employment testing.
• Strong knowledge of substation design standards and industry best practices.
