Senior / Staff Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

The Embedded Software team at waabi is building a best‑in‑class low‑level software integration platform for autonomous trucks. This senior/ staff role focuses on developing safety‑critical embedded code, integrating sensors, and supporting the bring‑up of the autonomous platform.

Key responsibilities

• Implement low‑level, safety‑critical embedded software for truck control functions such as engine control, steering and braking.
• Integrate sensor data and vehicle actuation feedback with localization and control systems to enable redundant safety features.
• Collaborate with hardware, safety and systems teams on design, build and validation of highly reliable next‑generation systems.
• Develop software following industry‑best practices for safe, reliable and robust code.
• Support the bring‑up and operation of the autonomous platform both remotely and on‑site.
• Work with other software and autonomy engineers to implement low‑level functions essential for autonomous vehicle success.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience developing embedded software on low‑level ARM microcontrollers and processors, often with an RTOS.
• Passion for writing clean, reusable embedded code and building systems to test and maintain that code.
• Technical leader who mentors junior engineers and collaborates across multidisciplinary teams.
• Deep experience with C, C++ or Rust (waabi primarily uses Rust).
• Background in safety‑critical, high‑reliability software projects following relevant industry safety standards.
