Senior SOX Consultant (6-12 month contract)

About the role

Our client, a leading producer in the cannabis industry, is seeking a Senior SOX Consultant for a 6‑12 month assignment. The role is based in downtown Toronto and requires onsite presence once a week.

Key responsibilities

• Support the execution of the SOX compliance program, including planning, monitoring, reporting and certification activities.
• Partner with business process owners to implement remediation plans for control deficiencies identified by management, internal audit or external auditors.
• Assist in designing, enhancing and implementing internal controls across financial, operational and IT processes.
• Review and update control documentation, Risk and Control Matrices, narratives and process flows.
• Provide guidance on control execution, evidence retention, IPE requirements, exception management and documentation standards.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and develop sustainable remediation solutions.
• Coordinate and monitor remediation activities across multiple workstreams to ensure timely completion and proper documentation.

Required profile

• CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
• Minimum 5 + years of experience at a Big 4 firm at Manager level or above, or 10 + years of internal controls, SOX, internal audit or risk management experience in a large multinational.
• Strong hands‑on experience with SOX 404 / ICFR programs, risk assessment, control design and remediation.
• Deep understanding of the COSO framework, PCAOB auditing standards and SOX 404 requirements.
