Senior Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeological Engineer – Modeller

About the role

BGC Engineering is seeking a senior hydrogeologist/hydrogeological engineer with strong numerical modelling expertise to join its Groundwater Team across Canada. The role combines technical leadership, field investigations, and mentorship within mining‑related hydrogeology projects.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and interpret conceptual and numerical groundwater models.
• Lead hydrogeological site investigations, including core logging, groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing.
• Build, calibrate, and defend 3‑D groundwater flow models using software such as MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, and Leapfrog.
• Script and automate modelling workflows (e.g., Python) to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
• Prepare technical reports, mentor junior staff, and act as technical lead on projects.
• Manage field projects, contractor scopes, budgets, and safety plans.
• Participate in proposal development, budgeting, scheduling, and client presentations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in geoscience, geological engineering or related field; P.Eng. or P.Geo. registration.
• 10+ years of professional experience with a focus on 3‑D numerical modelling and technical leadership.
• Proven ability to mentor junior staff and manage small to medium projects.
• Willingness to travel and work in remote field locations.
