Senior Grain Trader

About the role

GSL is seeking an experienced Senior Grain Trader to own and expand a profitable book of grain contracts across North America and export markets. You will translate market insight into profitable trades while building long‑term relationships with producers, buyers, and logistics partners.

Key responsibilities

• Originate, negotiate and execute grain purchase and sales contracts, driving volume and margin.
• Analyze supply‑demand fundamentals, basis, freight movements and macro trends to identify opportunities.
• Monitor positions, exposures and counter‑party credit risk to protect margins.
• Collaborate with Logistics and Operations to ensure efficient rail, truck and vessel movements.
• Develop and deepen relationships with producers, buyers and freight partners; represent GSL at industry events.
• Mentor junior traders and share market insights to raise team performance.
• Contribute to desk strategy and help shape the growth of the trading team.

Required profile

• 3+ years of grain or agricultural commodities trading experience with a proven profitable book.
• Strong origination and negotiation instincts; comfortable with cold calling and relationship building.
• Sharp commercial judgment and disciplined risk management.
• Fluent written and spoken English; French or additional languages are a plus.
• Degree in agriculture, business, economics, logistics or related field, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with commodity trading systems.
