Senior Fires Systems Engineer

About the role

GDIT is seeking a Senior Fires Systems Engineer to support AFATDS operations for Canadian Army artillery units. The role involves installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining mission‑critical software and hardware while providing training and mentorship to operators.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain AFATDS operating systems, applications, and management tools.
• Initialize, configure, and troubleshoot software interfaces and system integrations.
• Monitor system and network performance, ensuring high availability, reliability, and resilience.
• Maintain system security, backup procedures, and redundancy strategies.
• Prepare technical and operational reports on a weekly and bi‑weekly basis.
• Provide over‑the‑shoulder training and mentorship to artillery operators.
• Assist in planning and executing simulated and live‑fire exercises for Canadian Army units.
• Support the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance testing and interface management.

Required profile

• BA/BS degree and minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Active Secret Clearance and valid U.S. passport with at least 2 years remaining.
• CompTIA Security+ CE certification (preferred).
• Prior military experience is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Expert‑level knowledge of AFATDS operations, hardware, and software components.
• Windows 10 (or later) system administration.
• Windows Server 2012 (or later) administration.
• Basic networking fundamentals.
• VMware vSphere version 6.5.
• Familiarity with JADOCS, JTIC2S, JTT, JTT‑CP, MIDB, MARS, and GCCS‑J systems.
