Senior Backend Engineer – Applications

About the role

Forma.ai is building enterprise software that helps organizations optimize sales performance and improve go‑to‑market agility. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Applications team, you will design, build, and scale backend services that power complex product workflows for our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services for complex product workflows.
• Contribute to data models for hierarchical, relationship‑heavy, enterprise‑scale datasets.
• Make technical decisions balancing maintainability, performance, and operational simplicity.
• Improve testing, observability, and production reliability of services.
• Partner with Product to translate business requirements into clean, scalable designs.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
• Support teammates through pairing, reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Leverage AI tooling to accelerate delivery while upholding engineering standards.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing and building backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or C#.
• Solid foundation in SQL, relational schema design, and data modeling.
• Experience with hierarchical, graph‑like, or workflow‑driven data structures.
• Ability to identify technical risks, reason through trade‑offs, and propose practical improvements.
• Experience improving scalability, reliability, observability, or maintainability of production systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort collaborating across Engineering, Product, and Analytics while staying hands‑on.
