Senior Adjudication Review Officer

About the role

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario is seeking a Senior Adjudication Review Officer to strengthen its adjudicative function. You will work within the Tribunal and Dispute Resolution Division, applying legal expertise to ensure fair, transparent, and consistent decisions that protect Ontarians’ access and privacy rights.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse complex files and prepare Notices of Inquiry or Review.
• Draft legally sound Orders and Decisions based on case law and statutory frameworks.
• Provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders on adjudication procedures while maintaining impartiality.
• Monitor emerging legal trends, assess policy implications, and recommend improvements to adjudicative workflows and templates.
• Respond to post‑adjudication inquiries, including matters related to judicial review, ensuring clarity and protection of the IPC’s decisions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in legal research, tribunal or adjudicative writing, and regulatory decision‑making.
• Proven ability to draft legal documents such as decisions, orders, opinions, or case analyses.
• Expert knowledge of Ontario’s access and privacy legislation (FIPPA, MFIPPA, PHIPA, CYFSA).
• Strong understanding of administrative law principles, including procedural fairness, natural justice, and judicial review.
• Familiarity with case and records management systems, preferably CRIS.
