Senior Accountant – Real Estate Development

About the role

Our client, a well‑established real‑estate development firm in Toronto, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the finance team. The role blends traditional accounting with active involvement in budgeting, forecasting and project analysis for development and construction initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage financial reporting and accounting for multiple development and construction projects.
• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, commitments and costs, identifying trends, risks and variances.
• Partner with project managers and operational teams to provide financial guidance for decision‑making.
• Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end reporting.
• Analyse project financial performance and investigate variances.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting working papers.
• Support project cash‑flow forecasting and funding requirements.
• Assist with audit, tax and compliance activities.
• Recommend and implement process improvements and provide ad‑hoc financial analysis.

Required profile

• CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience in real‑estate development, construction, project accounting or public accounting (Big 4 or mid‑size firms preferred).
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards.
• Excellent analytical, communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
