Sales & Trading Analyst - Carbon Derivatives

About the role

The Sales & Trading Analyst – Carbon Derivatives will join MSL Climate’s environmental markets division in Montreal. Reporting to the Senior Compliance Carbon Trader, the analyst will support the design and execution of carbon trading strategies across regulated and voluntary markets, gaining hands‑on exposure to market analysis, quantitative research and commercial execution.

Key responsibilities

• Support development and continuous improvement of carbon trading strategies.
• Conduct in‑depth analysis of regulated carbon markets to identify opportunities and inefficiencies.
• Perform quantitative research, back‑testing, and risk/return analysis.
• Build and enhance pricing models, forecasting tools, and scenario‑analysis frameworks.
• Develop dashboards, risk indicators and decision‑support tools for the trading team.
• Clean, structure and automate market data and reporting workflows using Python, SQL and Excel.
• Write and publish a weekly newsletter on regulated carbon markets.
• Build relationships with clients, counterparties and market participants and support commercial discussions.
• Identify new trading and business opportunities through proactive outreach and market research.
• Contribute directly to the team’s trading performance and P&L.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in Finance, Engineering, Economics or related field.
• Proven experience with data cleaning, analysis, time‑series handling and statistical modelling.
• Ability to quickly absorb complex information and deliver relevant analysis.
• Solid understanding of financial modelling, forecasting, optimisation and derivatives markets.
• High ownership mindset with autonomy and problem‑solving attitude.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment.
• Excellent communication skills and bilingual in French and English.
• Based in Montreal.
