Roadway Safety Technologist

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Roadway Safety Technologist to support traffic operation and safety initiatives across existing roadways. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will conduct traffic studies, analyse collision data, and develop recommendations to improve roadway safety for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and investigate safety complaints, conduct traffic studies, and analyse collision histories to identify problem patterns.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendation documents, and correspondence for councillors, departments, and external agencies.
• Provide direction for the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic‑calming devices, and manage related work orders.
• Supervise traffic co‑op students, reviewing their work and reporting performance to supervisors.

Required profile

• Diploma in Traffic Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven time‑management ability.
• Valid Class “G” driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, Simtraffic, and Traffic Engineering Software (TES).
