Risk Analyst

About the role

Relay is a digital banking platform that helps small‑business owners manage cash flow with real‑time visibility. The Transaction Monitoring team protects millions of dollars in daily deposits, wires, checks and card transactions by deciding whether to hold or release funds. We are looking for a curious, decisive analyst who can leverage AI tools to investigate suspicious activity.

Key responsibilities

• Review and investigate suspicious activity across all payment channels, making hold/release decisions and documenting the rationale.
• Verify customer documentation and business activity to support decisions.
• Detect abnormal patterns such as velocity abuse, business email compromise or altered items.
• Document investigations clearly for compliance, banking partners and auditors.
• Suggest improvements to fraud rules, flag false positives and recommend new controls.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Customer Experience and Product teams to resolve cases quickly.
• Use AI tools daily to accelerate investigations and enhance team workflows.

Required profile

• 2+ years of transaction monitoring experience at a bank, fintech or payments company, with direct hold/release decision authority.
• Curious and investigative mindset; able to dig into why something doesn’t add up.
• Comfortable owning both hold and release outcomes and standing behind decisions.
• High agency problem‑solver who proposes and drives solutions without waiting.
• Active user of AI tools and eager to expand their use.
• Clear communicator who can document findings and present them to non‑risk partners.
• Thrives in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment and embraces a growth mindset.

Required skills

• SQL proficiency for independent data extraction.
• Card and disputes experience, including relevant regulations.
• Working knowledge of BSA/AML, KYC/CIP compliance requirements.
• Professional certifications such as CAMS or CFE (or equivalent).
