Rights and Permissions Manager

About the role

The Rights and Permissions Manager leads UBC Library’s Rights and Permissions service, ensuring smooth copyright clearance operations and effective supervision of the dedicated staff team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Rights and Permissions service, including third‑party copyright clearance.
• Hire, train, mentor, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline or terminate staff.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures aligned with Canadian copyright law.
• Forecast and manage the service budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
• Collaborate with the Head of Digital Programs and Services, Library IT, LT HUB, and other university units to ensure consistent policy application.
• Provide technical consultations and troubleshoot issues with Library IT and LT HUB.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing rights, permissions, or copyright clearance functions.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian copyright legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.
• Experience in budget planning and policy development.
• Ability to work independently while aligning with strategic university directions.
