Researcher - AI Computing System

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Advanced Computing and Storage Lab in Vancouver is seeking a Researcher to advance AI computing systems on the Ascend platform, focusing on large‑model training and inference.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop optimization solutions for AI training and inference, including FP8 optimization and reinforcement‑learning‑driven training agents.
• Build stable, efficient AI training clusters using dynamic configuration and precision control to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Develop software frameworks, operator libraries, and acceleration libraries for NPU platforms to accelerate large‑model AI workloads.
• Analyze system bottlenecks and devise parallel‑strategy tuning for large‑model training.
• Stay up‑to‑date with academic and industry research on AI cluster architecture and incorporate findings into system design.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields such as AI, robotics, or electronics.
• Familiarity with large‑model architectures (e.g., Deepseek, Llama) and experience optimizing training/inference for LLM, MoE, or multimodal models.
• Understanding of AI accelerator hardware (GPU/NPU) and ability to co‑optimize software and hardware components.
• Strong programming habits and architecture design skills.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems, and communicate effectively.
