Research Assistant/Technician – Neurostimulation Lab

About the role

The Department of Psychiatry at UBC is seeking a Research Assistant/Technician to support neurostimulation and neurophysiology studies in the NINET Lab. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on experience with clinical research protocols, data collection, and laboratory administration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and data collection for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) studies.
• Support neurophysiology experiments involving EEG, NIRS, TMS‑EEG, and EMG.
• Score patient and clinician rating scales and ensure data accuracy.
• Prepare study materials such as consent forms, ethics documents, and information sheets.
• Conduct literature reviews using online databases.
• Participate in conference calls and coordinate with collaborating centres.
• Perform general office duties and provide support to other NINET staff as needed.

Required profile

• High school graduation with at least one year of related experience (or equivalent education/experience).
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Experience working with clinical psychiatric populations is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience using REDCap for data management.
• Familiarity with online literature databases such as PubMed.
• Basic knowledge of EEG, NIRS, TMS, and EMG equipment.
