Research Assistant / Technician – Sorensen Lab (Pathology)

About the role

The Sorensen Laboratory at the BC Cancer Research Centre is seeking a Research Assistant/Technician to support translational studies on Ewing sarcoma and other high‑risk pediatric cancers. The role begins on September 1, 2026 and is initially a one‑year fixed‑term appointment with possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cell cultures and prepare samples for biochemical, molecular and cell‑based assays.
• Conduct basic literature searches relevant to metabolic adaptation and glutathione depletion studies.
• Assist with media preparation, equipment upkeep, and shared‑lab resource management.
• Handle daily mouse care, record cage information using Mosaic software, and ensure compliance with biosafety protocols.
• Prepare samples according to established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.

Required profile

• Undergraduate or graduate training in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
• Ability to work independently while following supervision from the Principal Investigator and study leads.
• Strong attention to detail and good judgment when handling laboratory chemicals and animals.
