Research Assistant – Qualitative Studies on Overdose Crisis

About the role

The Research Assistant will support qualitative research on the overdose crisis led by Drs. Thomas Kerr and Ryan McNeil at the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use. The role focuses on analyzing qualitative data, conducting interviews when needed, and ensuring data quality throughout the study.

Key responsibilities

• Code and analyze qualitative data using NVivo under the guidance of the Principal Investigators.
• Maintain study documentation, databases, and ensure accurate data entry.
• Recruit participants and conduct qualitative interviews.
• Process automated transcriptions, verify accuracy, and uphold confidentiality.
• Perform literature reviews and assist in preparing academic outputs such as presentations and manuscripts.
• Carry out additional research tasks as required.

Required profile

• Experience with qualitative research methods and data handling.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the research manager, staff, and students.
• Strong attention to detail to maintain data integrity and study timelines.
• Commitment to the mission of the BCCSU and its focus on substance‑use policy and care.
